How can I purchase carbon credits?
- Purchase online via the Gold Standard website
You can purchase Gold Standard-verified carbon credits via our Marketplace. This marketplace allows companies to purchase high-integrity carbon credits in a simple, transparent way.
Retirements are made in our public Impact Registry in real-time for full traceability, and certificates are issued to document the purchase of carbon credits. Proceeds benefit project developers directly, enabling them to maintain and expand their project activity and deliver more climate and sustainable development impact.
- Climate+ Portfolio
The Climate+ Portfolio offers volume discounts for single purchases over 1,000 credits. The portfolio features a range of project, from high-impact community based projects such as clean cooking solutions, biogas installations, and water access, as well as a range of renewable energy projects across the globe. To make a purchase from the Climate+ Portfolio, please contact us.
- Directly from Project Developers
The Impact Registry lists all the projects certified to Gold Standard. You can search and filter the projects that meet your strategic objectives and reach out to the project developers directly to make a purchase.
How are carbon credits on the Gold Standard Marketplace priced?
Gold Standard sells Verified Emission Reductions (carbon credits) on behalf of the project developers running these projects. To ensure that projects remain viable, a minimum price is applied for each different project type. This minimum price is calculated based on the Fairtrade carbon credit pricing model. Project developers can choose at what price to sell their credits above this minimum price. The prices are located in the project profiles.
You can learn more here about the value of carbon credits and how Gold Standard tonnes are priced.
What do I receive if I make a purchase through the Gold Standard Marketplace?
On completion of an order, you will receive an email notification from Gold Standard as well as one from PayPal confirming your transaction.
A few minutes later, you will receive a certificate email to document the purchase of carbon credits, with links to your credit retirements on the Impact Registry.
What should I do if I don't receive an email confirmation?
If you make a purchase through the Marketplace, you should receive an email confirmation from Gold Standard confirming your transaction and a follow-up email with the purchase certificate and links to the carbon credit retirement(s).
If the email is not visible in your inbox, kindly check your spam/junk folder in the first instance. If you have yet to receive anything, please contact us, providing your Marketplace order number.
Where does the money made from Gold Standard Marketplace go?
For the individual projects listed, 85% of the proceeds go to the project developers or their partner organisations to help maintain and expand their life-changing, climate saving projects.
The remaining 15% is used to cover the variable foreign exchange fees, banking charges, VAT where applicable, and the administration costs for hosting the platform and transparently retiring the credits.
Where does the money from a purchase of Climate + credits go?
The Climate+ Portfolio offers volume discounts for single purchases over 1,000 credits. The portfolio features a range of project, from high-impact community based projects such as clean cooking solutions, biogas installations, and water access, as well as a range of renewable energy projects across the globe. To make a purchase from the Climate+ Portfolio, please contact us.
Credits purchased from our Climate+ Portfolio are credits from Project Developers who opt for a 50% reduction in certification fees in exchange for allocating 2% of their issued carbon credits to Gold Standard.
Income generated from sales of these carbon credits will go to Gold Standard. We use this Climate+ Portfolio revenue to recoup the cost of reduced certification fees.
By purchasing these credits, you are essentially paying for 50% of the certification fees for project developers who cannot afford the full fees or need initial financial support to set up their projects. This arrangement has helped many project developers improve the financial viability for their project development and certification.
What payment options do you provide?
You can use PayPal, ApplePay, or credit / debit card to purchase carbon credits through our Marketplace.
Payment by direct bank transfers can be requested for purchases over 1000 credits. In order to use this service, please contact us indicating the project(s) selected, number of credits required.
Payments must be made in USD to Gold Standard’s bank account specified in the invoice within 14 days. Once funds reach Gold Standard’s bank account, the carbon credits will be publicly retired on our Impact Registry and a retirement certificate will be sent to you.
Can I set up a subscription/monthly payments?
Unfortunately, our current systems are not yet sophisticated enough to enable the automation of reccurring payments (e.g. monthly payments). You would need to go in and re-order what you require every month/quarter/year, depending on how you were managing your footprint.
