CORSIA: Are post-2020 Gold Standard credits eligible for CORSIA?

Modified on Thu, 02 Dec 2021 at 06:00 PM

The ICAO Council originally limited vintage eligibility for CORSIA eligible programmes, including Gold Standard, to units with vintages between 2016-20. Gold Standard has identified in its Registry all pre-2020 VERs that are eligible for use towards CORSIA.

For VERs with vintages of 2021 onwards, ICAO requires programmes to demonstrate that carbon credits will not be double counted by both an airline and the country hosting the project, meaning that the host country must apply a corresponding adjustment. While Gold Standard VERs with vintages of 2021 onward are not currently eligible under CORSIA, we will in the near future introduce new provisions to manage double counting with the host country’s NDC, and will submit this to ICAO to allow it to consider an extension to our eligibility.
